Educating my daughter

My daughter Mariia will be turning 7 this October. This means that starting from September 1, she will go to school. It happened so that my wife and I decided that Mariia will get the base education in Ukraine. Educational system in Ukraine may be a subject of a separate post, so much can be said about it. Anyway, I made a decision that starting from 9th grade Mariia will go to study to Europe and then to the US to get her Bachelors and Masters. Maybe something will change  in the course of time.

What I actually wanted to say is that Mariia started reading when she was still 5. She read in Russian and Ukrainian first. Right now she can read in English as well. Probably there is no more happy and proud father than I am. Observing how children grow up, evolve and develop is the best happiness one can get. There were times, though, when I could not understand that. But times change…

An interesting feeling when your child comes home  from a kindergarten with a poem assigned to learn by heart. But there is no need to do this, because your child can read, learn and recite it herself. Great feeling!

Reading aloud with my daughter is a kind of a ritual in our family. This all started when Mariia was a baby. Nowadays its a good habit that we practice every evening. First I was the only one to read. Now my daughter reads to me. This way we spend our evenings in a healthy, warm family environment.
